'''Majestic-12''' (sometimes written simply as MJ-12 or MJ-XII) is the codename of a secret committee, supposedly formed in 1952 to investigate UFO activity. This committee is an important part of the UFO conspiracy theory and its existence has been denied by the United States government, which insists that documents suggesting its existence are "completely bogus". The FBI looked into how one "top secret" document became public, only to close the investigation when it discovered that the document was a fake. The document in question is rather widely available on the Internet, including on the FBI's own website, linked below. It discusses Air Force investigation and concealment of a crashed alien spacecraft, and the presumed home planet of the craft. The committee was supposed to have been chaired by Vannevar Bush, Robert Oppenheimer and Albert Einstein and with alleged membership including James Forrestal, Edward Teller, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Nathan F. Twining. The proponents of this conspiracy theory hold that the scope of Majestic-12 operations covers not only the USA, but also China and Russia, and that finds of alien technology are traded between secret agencies of these countries. They contend that MJ-12 continues in operation today, working (perhaps with alien cooperation) toward global domination. The alleged members of the original Majestic-12 committee are: According to the testimony of Dan Burisch, Majestic-12 are today in fact working for the Committee of the Majority, a Masonic organisation which is coordinating alien contact with earth, as well as the operations towards a New World Order. Under this direction, MJ-12 are responsible for all scientific operations at Area 51, Dulce, New Mexico, and the Frenchman's Mountain installations.

Organisational Structure

According to less Illuminati-inspired conspiracy theory lore, Majestic 12 was created with a more humble goal. Modern myth has it that it exists to cover up alien activities on Earth, and liaise with the aliens to obtain technology in exchange for knowledge on human biology. This is given the codename "Operation Majority". Reputedly, the organisation's overseer is always the current President of the United States of America under the code-name "Majesty". The twelve members (MJ-1 through MJ-12) of the "council" are drawn from the United States government and military, with a similar constancy; MJ-1, for example, is reportedly always the current head of the CIA. The remainder of the conspiracy theory is grouped as a series of "Projects". "Project Garnet", for example, is supposedly in charge of protecting assets and knowledge. This was referenced in an X-Files episode in which Mulder is pursued by troops with garnet-coloured berets after he steals information. The Strategic Defense Initiative enters the theory as "Project Zeus", and its real role is, naturally, to provide defense against any hostile aliens which could be encountered. This conspiracy has widely inspired the main conspiracy theme of the popular TV series The X-Files and Dark Skies. In addition, the Majestic-12 conspiracy makes a prominent appearance in the PC game Deus Ex and its sequel Deus Ex: Invisible War. "The Patriots", an American Majestic-12 like organization, also exists in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, they also have twelve members and in an earlier form had relations with Russia and China, back when they were called "The Philosophers". Political satirist Christopher Buckley parodied Majestic-12 in his novel Little Green Men. Majestic-12 also appears in Scarecrow, a recent action novel by Matthew Reilly.
